The Tallest Man on Earth - Revolution Hall - Portland, OR
I was thrilled to the gills when I saw The Tallest Man on Earth, Kristian Matsson touring the States with his latest album Henry St. I initially found “The King of Spain” through the Spotify algorithm, as so many find new music and instantly fell in love with the unique pitch of his voice, and lyrical storytelling I was looking for in new music.
I was only expecting great music, what I was not expecting a visual feast of a man, bounding across the stage as - and I heard someone describe him as this- ‘a beautiful wood nymph from one side of the stage to the other with the agility of a classically trained dancer’. Matsson did nimbly make use of every inch of that stage at Revolution Hall, from one end to the other, at one point, sitting at the edge, playfully dangling his feet before completely laying down while still singing. The energy captivated the audience throughout the entire show.
I’m constantly annoyed with the fans, who in any moment of silence between songs, want to yell out their song request, and honestly I take absolute joy when they’re ignored. Petty I know. But when an artist like Matsson have such an incredible depth of music, screaming out that one song seems utterly rude. Kudos to Matsson for carrying on his set list as planned. The Tallest Man on Earth performing on stage, with his backing band, and all with all eyes from a packed house at Revolution Hall, crowd singing and dancing along was joyous, and the new album is brilliant!
Well worth the wait for a tour from Sweden, I’d love to see him again.
